Position 1: Postdoctoral Research Fellow

This 2-year’s position is offered by CHARLS at the Institute of Social Science Survey, Peking University, funded by Boya postdoctoral program. The 2-year’s research work will be supervised by Professor Yaohui Zhao, PI of CHARLS and the distinguished professor of ".
Number of positions: 2
Main Responsibilities: Successful applicants are expected to work with the CHARLS team to provide academic support for the field work and work on research projects. Main research areas in the program include but are not limited to:
Intergenerational support for the older people and their living arrangement
Retirement of the older people and its determinants
Health status of the older people and its determinants
The relationship between medical care services and medical insurance for the older people
The distribution of income, consumption and wealth of the older people and their determinants
Life history study of the older people
Other related research using CHARLS data
Requirements: (1) The applicant’s doctoral degree should be obtained from a well-known university in China or abroad. His/her research field is or relevant to applied microeconomics. Priority is given to those majoring in economics, while other fields such as demography, sociology, and public health will also be considered (2) Proficient in modern econometrics and good at analyzing micro data using Stata, Python or other related software (3) Fluent in English, in listening, speaking, reading and writing (4) Good research proposal (5) This postdoctoral program is eligible for those who are 35 years old and younger when applying (6) There are two rounds of application in 2020. he/she must have got the PhD degree no earlier than March 15, 2017 or will graduate by the end of 2020 for the first round application. And for the second round application, he/she must have got the PhD degree no earlier than Oct. 15, 2017 or will graduate by July 1, 2021 (7) Those who have already been tenured or in the tenure track are not eligible to apply for this program
Salary: Peking University will provide postdoctoral researcher fellows with a basic annual salary of 185,000 Yuan (pre-tax), and related social insurance, occupational annuity and housing provident fund of about 91,000 Yuan/year, and a housing subsidy of 60,000 Yuan/year for those who are not offered the postdoctoral apartment. The funding period is two years.

Position 2: Research Fellow
Number of positions: 2-3
Main responsibilities:

The distribution of income, consumption and wealth of the older people and their determinants
Life history study of the older people
Other related research using CHARLS data
Provide academic support for CHARLS field work
Work on the research project independently in the following areas:
Salary: No less than 200,000 Yuan (pre-tax), depending on performance.
Requirements:
Doctoral degree (including graduates of 2020)
Majoring in economics, sociology and related fields. Those majoring in applied microeconomics are preferred
Good ability in implementing research project independently
Proficient in applied econometrics and skilled in using software such as Stata or Python
Excellent English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Those with publications in English are preferred
Those who could join the CHARLS team as an intern are preferred

Position 3: Data analyst
Number of positions: 2
Main Responsibilities: a. Provide support for the field work b. Data cleaning and data analysis c. Working on research reports
The application requirements: a. Master degree or above. Those majoring in statistics, economics, public health, sociology are preferred b. Interested in field work. Those who have experience in field work are preferred c. Proficient in at least one data analysis software (Stata, Python, etc.). Those who are skilled in multiple software programming are preferred d. Excellent learning ability, careful and responsible e. Good reading and writing skills in Chinese and English f. Good communication skills, organizational skills and teamwork skills
